Volcanoes Park is home to the high number of mountain gorillas in the Virunga Conservation Area. Rwanda Development Board has habituated 10 gorilla families for trekking in Rwanda. You will therefore trek one of the 10 gorilla groups in Volcanoes national park. These include Agashya, Kwitonda, Umubano, Karisimbi, Susa A, Amahoro, Pablo and Titus. Since 2017, Rwanda has been selling the most luxury gorilla tors at $1500 per permit. In addition to gorillas, Volcanoes National park is home to golden monkeys, forest elephants and colubus monkeys among other animals. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Volcanoes National park
Your driver guide (our company representative) will pick you up from Kigali airport or your hotel and transfer to Volcanoes National Park, home for the endangered mountain gorillas. The drive time from Kigali to VNP is roughly 3 hours with scenic views of the green sceneries and Rwanda’s rolling hills. Dinner and overnight stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/ Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking
Today you wake up very early, have breakfast and with your packed lunch transfer to Kinigi Park headquarters for registration and briefing about the dos don’ts of gorilla trekking. You will be served with a cup of coffee and also entertained by local dancers to make your pre gorilla trekking experience awesome. At 8:00 am, start off the trekking to meet the allocated gorilla family. Hiking time is not predictable but it may be as short as 30 minutes to several hours depending on where gorillas will be located that day. On meeting the gorillas, spend an hour in their company, observe their human-like characters, take pictures, capture videos and enjoy this lifetime experience. Dinner and overnight stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/ Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking & transfer to Nyungwe Forest
Rise up early, have a cup of coffee and drive to Kinigi park headquarters for briefing about golden monkey trekking. The hike to meet these playful creatures starts at 8:00 am. Enjoy a magical encounter with the endangered golden monkey, enjoy their playful characters and have fun. Return to the lodge for refreshment, check out and drive south-westwards to Nyungwe Forest National park. Dinner and overnight stay at Nyungwe hilltop View/ One and Only Nyungwe House.
Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking & Canopy walk
In the early morning, have breakfast, get your packed lunch and transfer to Nyungwe Forest park headquarters for briefing. Thereafter, embark on a hike to meet your close relative. Spend an hour in the company of a chimpanzee community, embrace their human-like characters, take pictures and have fun. In the afternoon, go for a 2 hours canopy walk for aerial views of the forest. Dinner and overnight stay at Nyungwe hilltop View/ One and Only Nyungwe House.
Day 5: Departure
After breakfast, check out and tranfer to Kigali for your conencting fligght.
