Murchison Falls National park is one of Uganda’s largest and oldest with several mammals and over 450 different bird species recorded, Murchison Falls National Park is one of the places in Uganda. The park is located 305km from Kampala city on the Northwestern side of Uganda. It is approximately a 4 hours’ drive to reach Kampala. Best time to do birding in Murchison Falls National Park
Birding at Murchison can be done at any time of the year but the best time is January to march which is a low season but with plenty of birds. If you are interested in Migratory birds, the best time for this is November to April. There are basically two seasons for vising any National park in Uganda especially for game viewings like Murchison Falls, Peak season and low season.

Peak season
This is normally the period when the country is receiving less or no rains (dry season), this is the period between the months of November to March and June to September. The vegetation is relatively short in this period and visitors can easily spot their favorite game like the Buffaloes, lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, waterbucks, forest hogs, warthogs, Impalas, kobs, hippos and crocs are seen sunbathing on the shores of the waters, several antelopes and many bird species including the most sought bird the Shoebill Stock.

Low season
This is also known to be a wet season with showers of rain at any time of the day. The beauty about this period is that the parks is not so crowded with other guests like in the peak season where you find many visitors surrounding a particular animal or group of animals. The visitors are free to watch their favorite wildlife without the big numbers since most of the visitors are not in the country waiting for peak season. The rains are never too much to stop activities like game viewing as you sit back in a 4WD safari car with a senior driver in control.
